A historical residence built on the foundations of an Etruscan-Roman structure.
The 12-room villa is filled with frescoed walls, lofty beamed ceilings and places in which to sleep, sit, eat and think that are a feast for the eyes and respite for the spirit. Upper floor bedroom windows provide heady views of the surrounding Umbrian hills. Vast renovations transformed what must have once been a sumptuous private villa into a leisurely stop for travelers wanting to settle in for a little while.
The indoor and outdoor dining rooms have broad views of the surrounding countryside from the hilltop upon which the place sprawls.
Among many luxuries are 1000 hectares of private game park that is part of the estate. I learned that the owner is impassioned with exotic animals, which accounts for the man-made lakes that were carved out of the land to provide homes for his exotic wildlife collection. It seems to number hundreds of animals of all kinds, from nearly extinct Sardinian donkeys to Polar penguins.
Sumptuous swimming pool, complete gym and sauna.
