LOCANDA SOLOMEOwww.solomeo.it
Locanda Solomeo
Solomeo, in the outlying countryside of Perugia

Proprietors are Donatella Platoni and Pier Luigi Cavicchi, and their young son, Andrea, whose bright and engaging presence is an asset for guests with children. Their lovingly, tastefully restored country house built circa 1920, Locanda Solomeo, is located on the piazza of a small town, directly across from the church.

The town wakes up to church bells, which Donatella lobbies relentlessly with town officials to silence in consideration of her guests, though this reporter hopes she never meets with success. What better way to be woken up in the morning that to the toll of melodic, ancient church bells?

The inn is a jewel in this little lazy country village of perhaps a few hundred people that crowns a hilltop less than ten miles from the metropolis of Perugia. The Locanda, originally a private country home owned by Pier Luigi Cavicchi family, has been renovated without compromising its original architecture or charm, but the numerous guest rooms, breakfast room and other public rooms are appointed with state-of-the art modern conveniences, including sensor lights that turn on and off automatically as guests enter or leave room, standing s showers, telephones in every room, and a swimming pool in the panoramic backyard.

Donatella oversees the operation of nearby agricultural lands, which she inherited, and is rich with knowledge about local crops, foods, wine, cooking, customs and traditions. She carefully oversees the foods that are purchased for the inn, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner upon request during off-seasons, or in a newly renovated dining room with brick-oven during the high tourist season. She will direct visitors to the best shops for ceramics in Deruta, the best markets for local textiles, linens and weavings and other places of interest to guests interested in food, wine, Italian style and culture.
